Description MountainAirCA 2021-03-19 06:08:49 UTC
SUMMARY

Dead in the water: The latest Kstars 3.5.2 cannot seem to connect to my iOptron CEM40 mount. It worked fine on 3.5.1.

I tried different cables, different cable configurations, different ports, power cycling everything, etc. Once I ran out of ideas with StellarMate, I tried 3.5.2 on the Mac and it had the same issue.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a new profile with iOptron CEM40 and a camera.
2. Connect to profile.
3. Note error.

OBSERVED RESULT

[ERROR] Read Command Error: Timeout error
[INFO] Trying connecting to /dev/ttyUSB1 @ 9600 ...
[WARNING] Port /dev/ttyUSB1 is already used by another driver or process.

EXPECTED RESULT

Connection should succeed. While in the past I occasionally saw the error above, trying to re-connect would always work.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I had a copy of 3.5.0 for Mac, and that was able to connect. Also, I noticed that Indi moved to "V3" drivers, so I tried upgrading my mount and hand controller firmware with the latest packages. That unfortunately did not allow Kstars 3.5.2 to connect.

Baud rate set to 115200?

9600, just confirmed that’s what the connection tab is set to.

Any update on this issue? I just tried again. Out of many retries, I was able to get connected once, but there were all kinds of strange errors and it was unusable. I did manage to get it to slew, but it took several seconds then I couldn't stop it. This attempt did start at 115.2k:

Again, this works fine with KStars 3.5.0.

Much to my chagrin, this started working.  I'm not sure why.  I did reinstall KStars on the Mac, and built a new Ubuntu VM on the Mac... but StellarMate is in the same state as it was when I was out in the field having connection failures.  Suddenly, it connects just fine.  I did reboot the Mac for another reason, but that's probably not it.

I have no idea.  To verify this works under multiple configurations, I tried three different machines, three different USB 2 cables (all ~6ft), direct connections and those through the Pocket Power Box Advance, with and without cameras/efw/etc and they all work.  At this point after all this troubleshooting, I'm not sure what happened.

Sorry about this.
