Description tomtomtomreportingin 2021-03-13 21:44:17 UTC
SUMMARY
Certain mypaint brushes change dramatically when tweaking even minor settings, and can't be tweaked back to their original form without reloading the preset.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Select coarse bulk 2.myb.
2. Observe original form.
2. Change any setting.
3. Observe new form.

OBSERVED RESULT
Brush changes dramatically.

EXPECTED RESULT
Changes to the brush should correspond to the actual settings changed.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Debian sid
KDE Plasma Version: 5.20.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.78.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This happens with at least coarse bulk 2.myb and kabura.myb.

Can you check whether it's the same in Mypaint? If so, it's not a bug...
Comment 2 tomtomtomreportingin 2021-03-14 10:23:57 UTC
From what I can tell, coarse bulk 2 in Krita and coarse bulk 2 in MyPaint differ quite a lot in function. Krita's version is a lot more unwieldy, spraying everywhere in front of the path of the stroke based on speed, while MyPaint's coarse bulk 2 is a lot more tradtional. Similar behavior on changing brush settings doesn't seem to occur.

Although the brushes noted in the report are no longer included in Krita 5, the described behavior can still be seen in the included "e) Marker Medium (mypaint)" brush.

I'm not sure whether we actually can fix this -- the student behind the mypaint brush engine is long gone, and it's not the easiest brush engine to hack on. But I can confirm the issue.

I guess we should mark the patch as needs-info since I have rewritten a lot of mypaint brush options since then...

Tomtomtom, could you please recheck the bug in the modern Krita?
