SUMMARY I found a round of updates to Neon available today. I installed them through Discover. Much to my surprise, the session was terminated near the end of the update process. The same happened when I updated another computer and a tablet, so this does not seem like an incident specific to a single machine. I suspect this has to do with SDDM, which was part of the round of updates. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Update packages OBSERVED RESULT The session is terminated with no warning. EXPECTED RESULT The session continues normally. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux: KDE Neon KDE Plasma Version: 5.21.2 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.79.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This problem seems to affect both X.org and Wayland.
I've failed to reproduce this on a number of different user edition installation. Upload /var/log/dpkg.log and /var/log/apt/term.log I guess, perhaps they contain a lead.

I did an apt full-upgrade today on user edition and it did log me out and restart Plasma.
Created attachment 136609 [details] Logs Here are the two files as requested (compressed for convenience). Please note the files come from my tablet, on which I installed KDE Neon User Edition on the very same day as the bug showing up. The only change to configuration I made was to set up my WiFi network, I haven't even installed additional software yet so the system can be considered as close to vanilla as possible.
Created attachment 136610 [details] syslog excerpt I noticed the session termination too. I'm using KDE Neon User edition. I attached a syslog excerpt (a few irrelevant lines of personal info removed). It starts from packagekitd preparing sddm, then somewhere after it's making settings for sddm, x11 dies and systemd stops sddm. packagekitd finishes installing sddm and sddm is started again.
Seems debhelper wanted to restart SDDM for no good reason. We jigged the postinst script and today's update of SDDM can be installed without problem. Sorry for the breakage, thanks for the report.
