Description Raphaël Jakse 2021-03-10 11:23:59 UTC
SUMMARY

Kate (latest flatpak to this date) crashed with this assert:

ASSERT: "position.column() <= text.size()" in file src/buffer/katetextblock.cpp, line 82

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

Unfortunately, I haven't managed to reproduce. It happened while I was typing, presumably I was hitting the enter key. I was editing a JSX file with auto indentation on. Static wrapping / return is not enabled.

OBSERVED RESULT

Crash

EXPECTED RESULT

No crash

I would love this fix this, but I would need some backtrace at least.
Comment 2 Raphaël Jakse 2021-03-14 07:21:13 UTC
Sure.

Do you happen to know how to make the Flatpak version of Kate produce a core dump or make it drop to GDB when this assert is broken?

It does not seem to happen frequently, I haven't been able to reproduce it yet.
Comment 3 Christoph Cullmann 2021-03-14 12:19:11 UTC
I must confess, my knowledge about the runtime of Flatpak is close to zero.
Perhaps the normal core dump limits apply to them?
(and I think on modern systems, the systemd service for core dumps must be configured right)
Comment 4 Raphaël Jakse 2021-03-14 12:21:52 UTC
Ok, I'll look at it and come back to you if I ever get "so lucky" that I succeed in reproducing the bug and have a dump. I'll try to see if a trace was logged on the machine on which it happened.
