SUMMARY It is impossible to rename a group layer in the layer docker. It is however possible to rename it in the layer properties dialogue. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Create a group layer 2. Double-click the name in the layer docker 3. The name becomes editable. Change the name to something else 4. Press Enter OBSERVED RESULT The name has not changed. EXPECTED RESULT The name should have changed. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Manjaro KDE 5.21
Are you using a distribution package, or the appimage? If the former, please test with the appimage.
Can't reproduce. Consider whether you are really using Enter or Return.

As Halla's question is already answered above, changing this back to Reported.
With the 4.4.2 appimage on Debian 10: My keyboard has a numpad and renaming a group layer works with the numpad 'Enter' key and the main typing area 'Enter'key. According to the keyboard shortcuts configuration facility, the typing area 'Enter' key is recognised as "Return" and the numpad 'Enter' key is recognised as "Enter".
And just as this error has appeared, it has vanished. Now I can rename group layers just fine. Weird.
