ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Comment 2 Nate Graham 2022-11-01 20:30:43 UTC
Filelight has this now in version 22.08 and beyond; that change was not required.
Comment 3 soredake 2022-11-03 14:50:48 UTC
I've tried with 22.08.2 on opensuse leap 15.4 and it does not work.

Comment 5 Nate Graham 2022-11-03 18:52:46 UTC
Aha, it's not so much root locations, but rather locations that the current user doesn't have read access to. Confirmed.
Comment 6 Harald Sitter 2023-01-02 12:17:23 UTC
Doesn't kio-admin solve this?
Comment 7 Nate Graham 2023-01-02 15:46:25 UTC
How would one use it to accomplish the goal?
Comment 8 Harald Sitter 2023-01-02 15:55:37 UTC
filelight admin:///root
Comment 9 Nate Graham 2023-01-02 16:06:52 UTC
Thanks. Is there a GUI method to do that, or is it CLI-only?
Comment 10 Harald Sitter 2023-01-02 16:25:50 UTC
Entering the url into the file open dialog should also work, so should favorites in the left hand side. It works same as smb support.
Comment 11 Nate Graham 2023-01-02 16:29:41 UTC
Can confirm those methods work.

They're not super obvious, though, at least to people who aren't also kio-admin developers. :) A more obvious method of doing this would be good.

Still, as Harald says, it's possible now, so I'm closing this bug report. Please feel free to file a new bug report asking for a UI improvement to make it more obvious. Thanks!

Comment 13 Harald Sitter 2023-01-11 12:20:13 UTC
I don't think this is a duplicate. We want this solved on the KIO end so all apps benefit from it, we'd not want every app to have to implement file->admin redirections when we can just have the fopendialog deal with it.

Comment 15 Nate Graham 2023-01-11 16:37:00 UTC
Sure, let's move the bug to KIO then?
Comment 16 Harald Sitter 2023-01-12 10:35:13 UTC
Well, the history of this bug is a bit useless, I'd rather undo the duplication and move https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=463777 to KIO
Comment 17 Nate Graham 2023-01-12 20:46:50 UTC
Ok.
