It's a known problem that after saving the resolution is reduces when using highdpi scaling. I believe it's an issue in the image annotator lib we are using
Indeed. Here is the link to that issue: It's not clear if it really is an issue there or in Spectacle, though. The author at one point confirmed the issue and suggested a fix for Spectacle, but I applied it and it did not help. :(
