SUMMARY Icons of minimized programs like vlc or telegram do not show in the system tray when using a large monitor with 3440x1440 resolution. Only the "standard" icons like network, audio and power are visible. On a small monitor it works without problems STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. start vlc or telegram or other minimizable programm and minimize to system tray OBSERVED RESULT -Icon is not visible in system tray -If you rebuild the desktop with F5, the icon shows for a short moment only to disappear again EXPECTED RESULT Icons of minimized programs should show up in system tray SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Manjaro Linux (available in About System) KDE Plasma Version: 5.20.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.78.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
That's odd. I'm not sure how the screen resolution would be relevant here. Does the problem not happen if you force the resolution to 1080p? Also what scaling settings are you using? And what is your panel thickness?
Ok, resolution does not seem to be the cause, as lowering the resolution of the big monitor does not bring back the icons. Also tried with a smaller monitor, the icons keep disappeared. Panel Thickness is 70, system tray symbol size is set to small Global Scaling is set to 100% on both monitors. Forgot to mention I am in a multi monitor scenario with two external monitors Is there any more detail I can provide you ?
When switching back to single monitor (the laptop screen with resolution 1920x1080), the symbols re-appear, when I rebuild(F5) the desktop So maybe its something with the multi monitor setup.
As soon, as I connect the docking station and with that the other screens, the icons disappear again
Seems related to the second screen, definitely. Thanks for the info.
Is there anything else I can provide to help solve this bug, any debug logs or anything ?
No idea, sorry. :(
Does it fix itself it you restart plasmashell with the second montior connected?
When I kill and restart plasmashell the icons flicker and appear for a short moment just to disappear again right away.
Can you try on fresh user or with different distribution (for example https://neon.kde.org/ started from USB drive)?
I already tried with a fresh user, this did not solve the problem. When I find some time, I will try to install a new distro (or even the same but in a new installation) and will post the results here.
(In reply to Cajon from comment #11) > When I find some time, I will try to install a new distro You don't need to install, for test it should be enough to run live version from USB drive.
I sometimes had a similar problem with dual monitors, ex. Telegram but not always reproducible
