SUMMARY

Trying to scan just over 1,000,000 files for faces using DigiKam Face detection. Takes ages (expected given the file count) but crashed at 15% and keeps crashing (with no error code - software just closes) when I try to rescan. I'm using DigiKam 7.1.0, although I thought I'd originally downloaded 7.2.0 Beta 2

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

SEARCH SETTINGS
Detect Faces
Skip Images Already Scanned
Search in Whole Albums
Work on All Processor Cores
Face Accuracy 90%

SPECS
Windows 10
Intel i9-9900K
RTX 2080 Ti
32GB 2666MHz DDR4

DATABASE STATISTICS
Images 1,150,946
Videos 18,862
Database Backend QSQLITE

1. Try detecting faces.

OBSERVED RESULT
DigiKam abruptly closes at around 15% progress. And will not get past this if I try rescanning.

EXPECTED RESULT
Detects faces in image files, and doesn't crash.

Please test with current 7.2.0 release candidate where we fix more crash in face management compared to 7.2.0 beta. File is here :

Marvelous, It appears to have picked up from where it left off @ 15%. I'll confirm once its hopefully reached 100%. Thought I'd downloaded the latest version - obviously not!

Thanks a lot.

To willgnash comment #2

Do you complete the scan of your 1 million of images from your collections using 7.2.0 release candidate ? There is no more crash using face management ?

Best

Hi Gilles,

Not yet - still chugging through, Sitting at 60%. Getting there..

I can confirm 7.2.0 RC is running a lot smoother. I would expect scanning will be completed within 2 days.. Unless there is anything I can try to speed this up?

Many Thanks

Hi willgnash,

Thanks for your feedback.

If your face scan is under process at 60% with one million of files, well don't touch anything. Let's the application complete the job.

Which kind of items dou you have in your collections ? JPEG, PNG, TIFF, RAW, Video, etc ?

Best

digiKam 7.2.0 official release is published with more than 360 files closed from bugzilla:

https://www.digikam.org/news/2021-03-22-7.2.0_release_announcement/

Can you reproduce the dysfunction with this version ?

Thanks in advance for your feedback

We were last at 60%, we would like to know whether digiKam has scanned the 1 million images for faces?

Since the bug has been fixed, I close the bug report.
