SUMMARY
Currently, I use a 32px horizontal panel; selecting "Show Date" on the clock adds the date directly below the time makes both the time and date extremely tiny.  But, I have a LOT of space unused on my panel.  I'd love the ability select where the date gets placed - above/below (for vertical panels?) & right/left (for horizontal panels).  Basically, I'd expect something more similar to MacOS:
