Can confirm too (tested 20.12.3 package and 21.04.2 flatpak on Kubuntu 21.04). It even does that if Elisa is closed.
This is a very annoying behaviour as it should be a basic feature : I open a file, it should play it instantly. I switched to an alternative player because of that.

@medin You may want to change this title to something simpler like "Elisa does not play opened files but add them to the playlist" and move your current title "Elisa can report multiple played songs while only one is playing when opening the same files from outside of Elisa multiple times" to the description
