Current widgets panel layout

At the moment widgets panel is pretty small and has a lot of controls put next to each other and it might lead to general layout to be broken a bit when labels get translated to longer texts (see attached image 1.)

I am attaching not so nice in general image (i am no designer) but it shows concept of extended panel with categories list and controls position changed.
Please check second attached file.

Seems reasonable. If we do this, there would be fewer things to look at in each category, so we could perhaps go back town to two columns, but make each grid cell larger. This would also help with long text being elided.

In retrospect, I'm reconsidering whether I think this makes sense. It would make the sidebar really fat, and filtering by category seems like a niche thing compared to browsing or searching, and might not deserve all the extra space that would be required for it

I agree. I believe the priority should be to (a) show as many widgets as possible nicely and with enough space to each, and (b) taking not too much space in the screen, to make sure you can drag and drop things to the desktop without it becoming too small. The current filter button works well enough for its current role, I believe. Maybe some more functionalities could be added to that one, such as sorting.
