SUMMARY
Some pdf files do not display text at all or only part of the text. I think it should be something related to the font type used in the document

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. 
2. Open the attached file with okular 20.12
3. 

OBSERVED RESULT
Only figures are displayed, no text at all

EXPECTED RESULT

Everything looks as expected here with Liberation fonts installed. 

Can you install the fonts-liberation package?

fonts-liberation (v. 1:1.07.4-11) was already installed in my system

Ok. Can you look at what is shown on font substitution on the "File -> Properties... -> Fonts" tab (what is substituted for the Times fonts)?

Just to be sure, is the tex-gyre package installed?

I am still having major problems rendering some pdf files in okular. Can someone give some advice please?

Also, can you please try to remove the gyre fonts from the system?

Removing texgyre did the trick.
