1. see file folder
2. open file
3. appears blank instead of the drawing I had saved

I'm sorry that you apparently lost work, but but this is a bug tracker, not a user support forum. For support, to go https://krita-artists.org.

You can check the system log (help->krita log for bug reports) to see where you saved your files and whether krita confirms that the dfiles were saved correctly.
