SUMMARY
Currently if a company is bought out by another company the only way to handle this event in KMyMoney is to "sell" the stock that you own, and then "buy" the new stock. Although totally functional, I think it could be useful to have a "merge" option where you can easily just go from one stock to another when a company is bought out.

Benefits would include:
(1) Reports could be more accurate as to % gain - because it would consider the price you actually bought the original stock for (and the value of the current stock - company 2 - in calculating % profit)
(2) Just generally easier to use, inputting a ratio of shares gained per share owned would be easy to convert your current portfolio of company 1 to shares owned in company 2
(3) There are always fees associated with these mergers, would be nice to capture these during the entry of the "merge" instead of having to input a separate entry for a fee.

I would probably call it "convert" instead of "merge" but the concept is valid. I have at least one case where a company just reinvented itself, changed the stock symbol, and the price history was not continuous.
I suspect this is not likely to actually get done until there is a major overhaul of how KMM handles stocks. Unfortunately, that is not on any schedule yet.
I may consider creating a tracking bug to link the various individual bugs/wishlists which are related.
