SUMMARY
Updated to Nvidia 455 which is described as tested but obviously not very well as on 2 PCs had the same result, 1, not possible to logout via the GUI, only possible through the terminal shutdown command and 2, all desktop shortcuts no longer work and 3, applications associations are changed in surprising ways.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. upgrade to Nvidia 455 using K-start>Driver Manager
