Description Arkl1te 2020-12-09 21:14:06 UTC
SUMMARY
I think it's kinda redundant to have a selection tool key when we can use it for split cutting like in Vegas (S).

Example A
1. Press X for Razor tool.
2. Press X again for Selection tool.

Example B
1. Press M for Spacer tool.
2. Press M again for Selection tool.

OBSERVED RESULT
Does nothing else but unnecesarily reafirm you have selected the tool.

EXPECTED RESULT
Return to default tool (selection tool).

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: Windows 10
macOS: --
Linux/KDE Plasma: Debian 10 with i3wm (i3 window manager)
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: ?
KDE Frameworks Version: ?
Qt Version: ?

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I don't know what to put in the last three fields above.

It's more comfortable to press S to split/cut a clip, like Vegas by default.

Thanks for your report!

I get where you are coming from, but I think this is kind of subjective and we don't want to change the tool action behavior to toggle.

Eg. personally I blindly press the shortcut for certain tools sometimes even if the tool is already active, just to ensure I have the right tool activated. Some time ago we changed the behavior so that "Esc" quits the current tool and goes back to the select tool.
