Description Oliver Rasche 2020-11-29 20:38:45 UTC
SUMMARY

I regularly switch the monitor output and need to adjust the scaling (1440p monitor to 4k TV) and need to relog into Plasma.

Logging out of Plasma and logging back in with the same user results in error 50% of the time. Sometimes it works flawless, sometimes Plasma starts but some sound inputs are missing, sometimes Plasma hangs on the loading screen, sometimes it shows only black screen with just the mouse cursor showing. A full system reboot always works flawlessly.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Switch monitor output
2. Switch scaling
3. Logout and in

OBSERVED RESULT
Regular part or full crashes.

EXPECTED RESULT
Logging into Plasma

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: openSUSE Tumbleweed x86_64 / 5.9.10-1-default
KDE Plasma Version: Plasma 5.20.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.76.0
Qt Version: 5.15.2

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The problem seems to have been solved in a previous version of Opensuse Tumbleweed/Plasma (around 4-8 weeks ago) but is back now after an update.

If something crashed, we need a backtrace of it so we can figure out what's going on. If you can still reproduce the issue today with Plasma 5.27.5 or later, can you please attach a backtrace of the crash using the coredumpctl command-line program, as detailed in https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports#Retrieving_a_backtrace_using_coredumpctl?
Thanks!
