Description sayanel 2020-11-23 13:27:15 UTC
SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Go to categories
2. Double-click one category. You are now on the ledger, seeing only operation corresponding to this category.

How can you see the full ledger again ?
The only solution I know is :
3. On the top of the ledger, select another account
4. Go back to previous account.

EXPECTED RESULT
There should be a way to clear all filters currently applying to the ledger, for exemple a "clear all filters" button.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon. Cinnamon 4.6.7.
KDE Plasma Version: ?
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0
Qt Version: 5.12.8 (build against 5.12.8)

The choice of which account (or categories, which are treated internally as accounts) to display in the ledger is not a filter, and so cannot be "cleared." Besides, if you cleared the account being displayed, that would leave a blank ledger. When you say you want to see the full ledger again, you do have to choose a single account. You listed two ways, but you can also double click on a single transaction and the ledger will switch to the account of that transaction.

If I've misunderstood, or you can think of another way to select a different category or account, let us know.

In reviewing this, I can add two suggestions -
First, if you are looking at the register for a category, ane way to go back to the ledger for an account is to select a single transaction and then right click. The context menu has options to go to the ledger either for the account of that transaction or to the payee for that transaction.
Second, if you click the account dropdown at the top of the ledger, you can actually select the same account you had previously been showing, and it will show the ledger for that account. It is a known bug that that dropdown still shows the name of the previous account shown in the ledger and does not show the name of the category currently being displayed.

Again - there is no filter to clear. A category is treated internally as an account, so you really do need to switch to showing the ledger for a different account.

Plus, the method to select an account's ledger and the way the account ledgers are displayed changes in a future version (we will see accounts side by side in different tabs). This feature is then not needed at all.
