just delete .face file in your home directory and test it again
Comment 5 Nate Graham 2020-11-19 14:45:13 UTC
Ouch. Thanks for finding the key to reproducing it.
Comment 6 Janet Blackquill 2020-11-20 00:23:08 UTC
Seems to be an Accounts Service issue.

Opened an upstream issue at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/accountsservice/accountsservice/-/issues/94.
Comment 7 Nate Graham 2020-12-03 15:58:56 UTC
Re-opening to see if there's anything we can do to work around the issue, since there doesn't seem to be any movement on the upstream bug.
Comment 8 David Edmundson 2021-01-10 23:35:33 UTC
>Seems to be an Accounts Service issue.

In any case, I cannot reproduce this following the steps provided.
DBus shows I call SetEmail and SetRealName explicitly and they apply.

Jan, can you confirm what makes you assert that it is an upstream issue?

Comment 10 dS810 2021-01-25 10:23:32 UTC
I testet it right now.

1. I created new useraccount -> works as expected
2. Reopen Systemsettings and try to change and save user name -> error (screenshot: user_error.png)
3. Assing an awatar for new account and save it again.
4. Renaming works as expected (screenshot: user_error2.png)
