It would be nice if text content in lables, cards, etc. was selectable by default.

I agree.

As you've noticed, this needs upstream support in Qt. Not a whole ton we can do here without endless horrible hacks until https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-14077 is implemented.
