That seems very strange, given we remove the BOM internally from the text.

Could you try with some more recent version, e.g. either the nightly here

https://kate-editor.org/get-it/

or the last one from the Windows Store?

kate-21.12.3-1589-windows-msvc2019_64-cl.exe
The same - the text cannot be copied to clipboard.

kate-master-1678-windows-msvc2019_64-cl.exe - the text is not copied to clipboard either.

Hmm, yes, strange, I can paste again in Kate but not in e.g. Edge.

Still happens, strange...
Comment 9 Christoph Cullmann 2024-12-10 22:50:56 UTC
Hmmm, tried it again, it doesn't happen if the file is proper utf-8, the test file seems to contain invalid characters.
Comment 10 Christoph Cullmann 2024-12-10 22:56:23 UTC
svchost.exe (PID = 4164) identified C:\Windows\system32\rundll32.exe as Unrestricted using path rule, Guid = {791bea38-439d-4a10-add2-e836fd9052be}

that contains interleaved bad chars that just break other apps, notepad just filters them out on open, don't think that is better.
