When I run plasma-systemmonitor with 3 line charts I have really *heavy* GPU load. See bug 428798 for screenshot of the configuration and the temperature rise of my GPU. I just looked at that ticket and there was only CPU graphs showing. Can you please upload a GPU one to this bug so we can investigate, thanks.
In attachment 133117 [details], there is a temperature graph with GPU marked in Red in the middle panel. In the bottom panel there is also a fan RPM graph (again, GPU is marked in Red).
The charts are rendered by the GPU, so it is expected that they increase the GPU usage. It shouldn't max out something like a R9 Fury though. However, GPU temperature/fan speed doesn't really tell how much actual usage is going on. Please check with something like radeon-top to see if your GPU is actually busy or there's just some bad thermal management going on.
Created attachment 133145 [details] radeontop
Attached is a screenshot of radeontop over systemmonitor, showing 99% graphics pipe usage.
Created attachment 133147 [details] radeontop with auto performance Screw my previous statement, those were captured with GPU performance set to 'low'. When I set to 'auto' performance, graphics pipe usage is "just" 30%. Power usage is however increasing from around 15 W to 75 W (not shown).
