Description Maguer Patrick 2020-11-07 08:44:57 UTC
Created attachment 133103 [details]
document in French, a PDF and the scan of its edition

Try on two printers:
  - Brother MFC8690 with the drivers supplied by Brother
  - Brother 3130 with the drivers provided by the distribution

Distribution: Neon 5.2 new installation

Creation of a PDF document by software (gambas3)
When editing this document, regardless of the "Scaling mode" selected, the margins are not taken into account.

Note that the tandems:
  - Neon - Evince works
  - Ubuntu 16.04 - Okular works
  - Mint 19 - Okular works

I attach this document in French, a PDF and the scan of its edition.

When editing what?

Okular doesn't support editing.
Comment 2 Maguer Patrick 2020-11-07 10:16:12 UTC
When editing a PDF the margins are cropped as you can see on the attached files.
What appeals to me is that with Evince the editing is done normally.

I'm sorry but you need to explain yourself better.

"When editing a PDF the margins are cropped as you can see on the attached files."

You can't edit a PDF in Okular, so the whole sentence makes no sense.

This is probably just a question of terminology. We don’t consider Okular to be an “editor”, because it can not modify the document contents. Instead, we consider it to be a “viewer”, which includes different view settings like “zoom”, which is maybe what you called “scaling mode”.

The “Steps to reproduce” section is helpful in such cases. I interpret your problem as follows (without any “editing” involved):

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open the attached PDF document in Okular. Note that there is no margin between the page edges and the contents.
2. Open the print dialog (File -> Print), and select one of the mentioned printers.
3. In the print dialog, choose scale mode “Fit to printable area”
4. Print

OBSERVED RESULTS
The document is print in its original size, so the contents are partially outside the printable area, and thus cut off.

Is this correct?
Comment 5 Maguer Patrick 2020-11-09 06:56:46 UTC
Please excuse me, but my English level is so low that I use an automatic translator. Indeed in French edition and printing are synonymous.
It is exactly that and whatever the options selected in the dialog box.

After further testing today it seems to me that the problem is larger than Okular.
Lpr docpdf command does not print correctly
Opening a PDF with libreoffice draw does not print correctly
Prints by third-party software are also not correct and the number of copies set by the latter are not taken into account.

In addition I recovered a laptop (teleworking) on which I had installed Neon and I have the same printing problems.

Thanks for the update; changing status.

If after fixing the printing subsystem the issue seems specific to Okular, please report a new ticket with updated information.
