Description Mgns 2020-11-05 18:57:08 UTC
SUMMARY

I have a recently purchased HP Envy 6000 series multifunction device that I was trying to use with ScanLite. ScanLite is able to find the printer, connected by WIFI, and I am also able to get a preview o whatever I am trying to scan. The issue appears when I click the "Scan" button to get the actual file. After a while, the scanner seems to scan as it should; however, instead of saving the image to the disk I get a popup saying "Scanlite Test - Invalid argument". From here, all I can do is to press the OK button which gives back the control to the Scanlite app again.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start Scanlite
2. Click Scan
3. Invalid argument message appears

OBSERVED RESULT

When pressing the scan button, the message "Waiting for the scan to start" is displayed at the bottom of the page. The scanner seems to be performing the actual scan. After a while, the dialog window pops-up with the message mentioned before. No image is saved to disk.

EXPECTED RESULT

The scanned document should be saved to the location defined in the Scanlite settings window.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE neon 5.20
KDE Plasma Version: 5.20.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.75.0
Qt Version: 5.15.0

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Comment 1 Mgns 2020-11-19 16:58:21 UTC
While performing some more testing, it seems that the error message only appears when I use scan resolutions above 300 DPI. For 300 DPI and below, the program is able to correctly obtain the image and let me save it to the disk.

Can you please try HPLIP? HPLIP 3.20.5 and above supports ENVY 6000 series.

Hello, I tried to update before, but got some dependency issues that I couldn't resolve in a timely manner. I will see if I can find some time to try with a more recent version of hplib as you suggest and see if that allows me to scan with a higher DPI. For now, it works on 300 and that is more than I need.

It looks like KDE Neon is currently based on Ubuntu 20.04 so the HPLIP package is outdated (3.20.3).

Let us know your test results when an updated version of HPLIP is available for your distribution.
