SUMMARY i made a keyboard shortcut for adding a black frame. I used f7. it works the first 2 times then it deselects the timeline and it cant add any more blank frames. why not use the add multiple blank frames option? it is much faster to press a button 3 times than to open up an option and either switch to my keyboard or manually write out the numbers and press ok. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. assign a key to add a blank frame 2. use it 3. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS - windows 10 Windows: yes ADDITIONAL INFORMATION krita plus current
Hi azlantgc, Could you try the latest master (krita next) and let me know if this hotkey issue is still a problem for you?

Yes it is still an issue. it was working fine for a 3 seconds before it stopped making frames. i held down the f7 key. when reseting krita it works again for a few seconds then doesnt again.
If I use a shortcut (F7) for Create Blank Frame, it works but does not advance the selected frame. I have to press F7, right-arrow, F7, right arrow, etc and I can do this as many times as I want with no problem.

You can also click on the frame> f7 > click on the frame > f7. thats not a viable option. it is still too slow and very inconvenient and not working as intended. im taking months to produce a short film and over the duration it slows down production by many hours. little things like these deter proffessional animators like my self. Who already has TV Paint / Adobe suite.
I think you're saying that you want a Create Blank Frame shortcut to advance to the next frame and then create a blank keyframe. If so, this would be a Wishlist bug report. If you have Auto Frame Mode set to on, you can quickly press right-arrow then Delete to create a new blank frame at the next frame. At the moment, I can't imagine that it would take much time to touch your stylus on the next frame and then press F7.

I mean hold frame [had to go back into krita to double check]. you are right adding a blank key frame doesnt take a lot of time but adding multiple hold frames [blank non-key frames] is the issue f7 = insert hold frame. is the actual issue however the fix you applied for blank key frames helps a lot (Y) the "adding hold frames" is the last of my issues thus far sorry for the confusion.
At this stage, I think it would be a good idea for you to go to https://krita-artists.org/ and start a topic there for this subject. That forum is a very suitable place for discussion and uploading illustrative screenshots and diagrams.
Created attachment 132848 [details] attachment-21371-0.html You can also change your auto key mode to create blank frames instead of duplicate frames, if that helps. Currently that's only available of Krita Next. (I wrote this comment after c4 but haven't published; still, I think it contain info that wasn't mentioned before, so please just ignore parts that already were). @azlantgc can you please check if you're not having a cursor over the canvas while making those frames? Generally for the shortcut to work, as you noticed, the Timeline needs to be in focus. Having cursor over the canvas means that Krita thinks you'd like to have canvas in focus, so it switches the focus without you needing to click on it; it's useful for stuff like Move Tool and arrow shortcuts, for example. But it also causes issues like bug 395866 and possibly the issue we're discussing right now. Do you think that's the reason the Timeline gets unfocused and the shortcut stops working? Also there are multiple operations on the Timeline: A) Create Blank/Duplicate Frame - they create just one frame in the current frame, even if you select multiple; so not suitable for bigger amount of frames B) Insert multiple keyframes - it calls a dialog, so not for fast creating of frames either, although it is suitable for big number of frames C) Insert Keyframes Left - it should just create blank frames in the whole selected region, put it will push down the rest of the frames further down. @azlantgc would it help you if you'd use the C option by first selecting a range with the number of frames you want to add, and then pressing the shortcut for C function (You can add the shortcut in the usual location)? If C is not suitable, because it does pushed down the rest of the timeline (it's non-destructive, won't fill the gaps), would it be fine if you used A instead if it worked for multiple frames (which isn't the case right now - that would be a change to make by developers)? And btw, "Krita Next" version that Eoin mentioned right now it not suitable for production use, unfortunately :( It contains not only lots of improvements to Animation (Eoin and Emmet are working only on animation right now), but also resource rewrite, which makes it a bit unstable.

Although i do find it interesting that the cursors focus affects shortcuts, which i think it shouldnt. Regardless ive tried it on multiple versions and come up with the same issue. I look forward to the animation updates. mainly for sound and tweening. I think once those are added I can get my fellow animators to support krita.
