Description mekerr123 2020-10-20 13:36:49 UTC
SUMMARY
The microphone sensitivity resets to 49% after being muted, instead of staying at the percentage it was muted at. This is an issue when you unmute the microphone as the percentage could be a lot higher or lower than what it was initially set to. Ideally, it should stay at the same percentage.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Mute the microphone.
2. Wait a few minutes - it does not seem to happen if you unmute instantly.
3. Unmute the microphone.

OBSERVED RESULT
The microphone sensitivity is reset to 49%.

EXPECTED RESULT
The microphone sensitivity should be set to what it was when it was muted.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma: 5.8.14
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.20.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.75.0
Qt Version: 5.15.1

I just tried this and can confirm it. Unmuting does indeed reset the sensitivity to 49%.

How bizarre. Can you confirm that this did not happen to you in Plasma 5.19, or are yo not sure?

I am not certain, but I do not remember this happening in 5.19.

I have also noticed that it will reset to seemingly random percentages (usually 20-30% lower than what it was initially set to) over time (maybe an hour or so.)

This happens even when unmuted, just to clarify.

I'm unable to reproduce on neon unstable.

Operating System: KDE neon Unstable Edition
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.80
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.83.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3
Graphics Platform: X11

I can't reproduce this and I don't see anything that would explain this behavior in our code ((un)muting doesn't touch any volume settings).

Most likely this is an issue with PulseAudio or somewhere lower in the stack. If you are still facing this please report at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/-/issues
