SUMMARY
There do not seem to be shortcuts for pictures, videos and audio in the home directory. I am pretty used to them from GNOMEs file manager and also Windows explorer. All Dolphin offers in the left side panel are shortcuts to searches for these file types, which is not what I want. Shortcuts for Downloads and Documents are there, though.

Might be already there as an option - In that case one might discuss to make that option default.

Please tell me if this is caused by some weird setting of me, I don't remember to have removed those shortcuts myself, though.

You can add the shortcuts yourself by right-clicking on the "Places" label ("Orte" in your screenshot).

Alright, thanks for letting me know.

I propose to have them displayed by default, though.

Yes, back when I started adding more items to the sidebar, I proposed this, but these entries were controversial, so I dropped the idea in order to get *something* done. You can see the context and history here: https://phabricator.kde.org/D10245.

If someone wanted to do this, they would add them to the shared KIO Places model that Dolphin uses, around here: https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kio/-/blob/master/src/filewidgets/kfileplacesmodel.cpp#L286

From a political perspective, most of the people who objected back then are no longer around today, so there's a window of opportunity to get it done now. I'd be happy to help someone who wanted to do it. Maybe you? :)

Thanks for the details.

Having a short look, it indeed looks rather easy to achieve.

Problem for me is that I am currently already over my time budget with filing and following my current bug reports :(
Comment 5 Nate Graham 2020-10-18 18:01:47 UTC
If you have the technical ability to contribute through code, that's often more effective use of time than bug filing and triaging. :)
Comment 6 Claudius Ellsel 2020-10-18 19:17:05 UTC
It depends. The past days I spent mostly filing bugs I noticed (or feature requests like this one) and did not file before so people are aware of them.

Then there is of course time needed to follow up on my own reports.
Comment 7 Nate Graham 2020-10-18 19:48:24 UTC
Actually it doesn't depend. Bug triaging is something that more people are capable of doing compared to software engineering; therefore a person capable of doing software engineering is generally producing more value by doing software engineering than by doing bug triage.

In fact that's the entire point of bug triage: to make sure that people capable of doing software engineering have to interact with the bug tracker as little as possible, so they can spend more of their time fixing bugs and writing features.

I was mainly talking about filing bugs I noticed or feature requests. Those are quite a few that are still open.

Most things I wanted to file are filed now, but in Plasma, when you file stuff you seem to pretty often find a new bug, unfortunately.

Filing those had top priority to me, since I am not capable of fixing or implementing all of them.

When it comes to bug triaging one argument is that I am not really a developer, so triaging things hopefully gives more room for the real ones. Plus I think a cleaned up bugtracker benefits more people than just the devs. For example it enhances the user experience alot, I think, if bug reports receive a reply instead of laying around for sometimes years. That way one makes sure users will report their findings also in the future and maybe be more open to follow up on things.

That being said, I might have a look at it in the near future.
