It would be practical and preferable to keep the copied items even if the source application is closed. Many times I copy files from Dolphin then close it and when I try to paste them on my Desktop it fails because the copied items are deleted after Dolphin is closed. This happens also when I copy some code from Kate and close it, and the paste operation fails on another IDE like Eclipse or VSCode. Indeed it would. That's why Klipper was created: it does exactly this! :) Have you, by any chance, disabled or uninstalled Klipper?

Yeah I disabled it because it doesn't have automatic paste upon selection so I use CopyQ instead of it. I didn't know it has this system wide feature.
Well, if you disable the software that provides this feature, you won't have it. :) You'll need to re-enable Klipper to have your paste data persist after an app is closed, or else ask the developers of CopyIQ for them to add the feature.
