SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open up and a fatal error pops up – The backend process failed to start with exit code 6.
The R backend will be shut down immediately. This means, you can not use any more functions that rely on it. I.e. you can do hardly anything at all, not even save the workspace (but if you're lucky, R already did that). What you can do, however, is save any open command-files, the output, or copy data out of open data editors. Quit RKWard after that. Sorry!
2. Click analysis
3. Click time series and then box pierce

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
---Problem description---
Please fill in the missing bits *in English*.

I encountered the error message quoted below. Additionally, I saw the following symptoms:
The backend process failed to start with exit code 6.
Sorry!

What - in detail - did you do directly before you encountered this problem?
Open the program

When you try to repeat the above, does the problem occur again (no, sometimes, always)?
Yes every single time

If applicable: When doing the same thing in an R session outside of RKWard, do you see the same problem?
No, I am not proficient in R. This is why I have downloaded Reward to try and conduct statistics as I am very proficient in Stata

Do you have any further information that might help us to track this problem down? In particular, if applicable, can you provide sample data and sample R code to reproduce this problem?
I do not need any data

RKWard is available in many different packagings, and sometimes problems are specific to one method of installation. How did you install RKWard (which file(s) did you download)?
The Mac version on your website

Thanks for reporting. The real error will be the one you get immediately: The R engine does not start. The subsequent crash is not pretty, but likely just a symptom of the former: As the message says, hardly anything is expected to work in this case.

So about the first problem:
- What R version do you have installed (you are aware that R needs to be installed, separately)?
- If the answer is R 4.0.x, this is not expected to work with RKWard 0.7.1b. Please try using this RKWard image, instead (a preview of 0.7.2, which is due to be released, officially, in a few days):

Hi,

Many thanks for your help.

I have tried the latest release. However, it now crashes and it does not
respond. I receive the exact same error message. However, I cannot even
interact with it.

Many thanks in advance.

With regards,
Jake

Sorry to hear that. So what is your installed version of R?
Comment 4 Thomas Friedrichsmeier 2020-10-27 15:01:59 UTC
Again, we need more info, importantly the version of R you have installed.

In MacOs 11.2.1 (20D74) Big Sur in a 7,2 Macbook Air, I have exactly the same problem. Every single time you open RKward, it crashes.

I downloaded the latest MacOs binary, v. 0.7.2 from your website yesterday. R version 4.0.3 (2020-10-10) is working fine, and RStudio does so too.

Just in case it had something to do with permissions, I gave RKward any single permission I could, including full disk access, nothing worked.

I am not an expert in R, I'm an student, that is why I chose to try RKward.

I hope I can further help to solve this issue, the program in the current state is absolutely unusable for those who face this issue.

Many thanks in advance.
