Description Clarc 2020-10-13 19:07:39 UTC
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Activate "Open new files in tabs"
2. Open two pdf-files by double-clicking on them.
3. They get opened in two different WINDOWS, not TABS.

OBSERVED RESULT
They get opened in two different windows. It feels like this option currently does nothing at all.

EXPECTED RESULT
They get opened in two tabs within the same window.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Linux Mint 20
(available in About System)
KDE Frameworks 5.74.0
Qt 5.15.1 (built against 5.15.1)
The xcb windowing system

does it work if you open from inside okular using File->Open?
does it work if you open using the terminal i.e. okular filea.pdf and then okular fileb.pdf?

Sorry for not being clear enough. Here's what works and what doesn't. Tabs get used when:
- Using File -> Open
- Using File -> Open Recent
- Marking two documents at the same time in your file-explorer and then hitting ENTER

However! The most used way of opening documents (at least for me and the people i know) doesn't use tabs:
1. Double-click file_a.pdf in your file-explorer
2. Ocular opens it
3. Double-click file_b.pdf in your file-explorer
4. Ocular opens file_b.pdf in a second window, instead of using a second tab.

This is what I meant.

I tried, but that command doesn't seem to do anything. I installed the flatpak/flathub-version of Okular, which might mean i need to use another command. I don't know what to write instead though, as I am not that experienced with Linux yet.
I tried "flatpak okular filea.pdf", but it didn't work.

ok, then it's not really "an okular bug" but an "okular in flatpak bug". Probably needs so punching in the dbus protection layer of flatpak

Interesting, I'll post a link to this Issue there then. Thank you.

Don't know if it's related, but trying to open a file in okular through File->Open File brings up a Mac open file dialog with XPS file format chosen by default, so all PDF files are grayed. Only after switching the option to PDF they can be opened.
