SUMMARY I norally want dolphin display by icons and alphabetically, but for some folder i want different view; for download I want list and order by ascending modification date, for example, to identify quickly new downloads. I search online and there should be a "this folder only" in the "view display style" menu, but is not there in Dolphin 20.8.2. There does not seems to be any intuitive or GUI way to do it. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. open a folder 2. change view settings OBSERVED RESULT the view changes for all folder, and there is no option anywhere that i can find EXPECTED RESULT the view changes for only the current folder SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.19.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.75.0 Qt Version: 5.15.1 Kernel Version: 5.9.0-1-mainline OS Type: 64-bit Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor Memory: 15.6 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
Configure Dolphin > General > Behavior tab > Remember display style for each folder.
Works for me, but is there a p[lace to discuss about the discoverability of that feature and/or if should be enabled by default?
Here, or the VDG room. See https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/design#Communication_and_Workflow FWIW we used to have per-folder view settings on by default, but we got bug reports and user complaints because people couldn't figure out why changing the view style using the toolbar buttons wasn't persistent. As for discoverability, it's visible as the first item on the front page of the settings window. :)
