(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***) Package: kdvi Version: KDE 3.0.0 Severity: wishlist Installed from: Mandrake RPMs Compiler: Not Specified OS: Not Specified OS/Compiler notes: Not Specified It would be interesting if kdvi could be used for slides presentation a la powerpoint. New extension of dvi have been developped to do interactive animated presentations that are called "active dvi". See http://pauillac.inria.fr/advi/ It's really nice! (Submitted via bugs.kde.org)
Active DVI has 2 other interesting features: 1. like xdvi, it responds to SIGUSR1 (I believe) by refreshing the current page. This is actually easy to obtain with kdvi, using the appropriate DCOP message. Don't know about the relative speed though. 2. when refreshing, unlike xdvi, it does not first clear the page, then paint a new page; rather, it paints to an off-screen pixmap, then copies the pixmap to screen. Result: flicker-free refreshes. Both features are useful in conjunction with Whizzytex, which provides "instant preview" under Emacs. For what it's worth, I should also point out that right now xdvi and advi are both quite a bit faster (e.g. when rendering a single page) than kdvi. I wish I had some time to look into these matters---I use Kile and Kdvi all the time. Right now I can only point them out, perhaps for future memory... sorry! M
