Video demonstrating issue. Watch carefully the folder panel on left side for flickering arrows.

SUMMARY

The folders panel flickers its arrows very quickly, repeatedly on certain directories, usually ones that do not have a sub-directory.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Launch Dolphin.
2. Enable Folders Panel.
3. Click around folders panel and see flickering of arrows.

OBSERVED RESULT

Flickers arrows, causing distraction.

EXPECTED RESULT

Should not flicker arrows so much. I assume this is while trying to check if a directory exists in the path.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma: 5.8.13
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.19.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.74.0
Qt Version: 5.15.1

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This was not happening in a prior version.

My main filesystems are ext4 mounted with defaults. mount output shows this to mean:

rw,relatime

I have seen this happen with the /run path which is tmpfs.

I do have 'File Search' enabled, with file content scanning enabled, but not hidden files.

I'm seeing this problem as well. Folders in the folder pane without any subfolders flicker like they have subfolders. When this occurs, the flickering does not stop.
I had this problem under Fedora 32, and still have this problem under Fedora 33 on two different laptops.

- It occurs both on my ext4 home folder, and my ntfs data partition. However, it is more prominent on the ntfs partition, and is eating significant cpu time when the flickering is visible (both Dolphin 9% and mount.ntfs 8% (total=100%))

- Completely empty folders do not seem to be affected (no flickering visible).

- Newly create folders, created within the Dolphin window, do not seem to be affected either, even when new files are copied in (or a copy of flickering folder) A new Dolphin windows shows again the flickering.

- The folders do not flicker synchronously.
