Description Rafael D. 2020-09-30 17:33:42 UTC
SUMMARY
A bunch of different bugs that seem to be caused by the same thing. I'm currently using a Huion H1161, new.

Whenever I work on a drawing for more than a few minutes (it seems to happen more often the heavier the file is, but that's a mere hypothesis), the brush starts bugging in every way possible, sometimes it just freezes when I try to open the color palette (shortcut is right-click), which sometimes solves itself it I change to another window and go back to Krita, or even right-click again. It's worth mentioning that the brush only freezes inside the canvas, the menus in Krita work normally, except for the color palette, of course.

Other times, for an unknown reason, the brush gets stuck in pan mode (the little hand), this one I haven't found a workaround other than clicking like a donkey until it solves itself, pressing any buttons on the pen or tablet, I tried using other software for a while, and it only seems to happen in Krita.

I'm using ANGLE instead of OpenGL, bug happens with both.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Plug H1161
2. Open a file in Krita (preferably something above 1000x1000, seems to happen more with bigger files)
3. Draw for a while, only choose colors from the color palette.
4. Eventually, instead of the brush just quickly vanishing so the palette opens, it won't open anything and will either freeze or disappear.
4b. Alternatively, the brush might just get stuck in pan mode, for whatever reason.

OBSERVED RESULT
The brush starts bugging out after a while, can happen right after I create a file, too, but it's way less often. With time, it becomes harder to paint, as the bugs get more frequent.

EXPECTED RESULT
Everything should work normally, the color palette should open, the brush shouldn't get stuck, Krita should work properly.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: 10
Huion Driver: v14.8.137.1273

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I use a Wacom Intuos Draw before, Krita had these bugs with that tablet, so I don't think it's something with Huion, since Medibang worked properly. The issues started happening a few months ago (June - July), and it's been hard to use Krita consistently since then, I posted in the Krita subreddit, no response, posted on the forums, couldn't find an answer (but did get help).

in point 3. do you mean the "popup color palette"? We used to have a bug similiar to what you describe, but instead it would lock the UI when using the Popup ColorPalette

Yes, I forgot to put the poput part before it.

Does it still happen if you switch Krita to Windows Ink in Configure Krita -> Tablet Settings, then restart your PC?

It actually works better with WinTab, using Windows Ink messes up the pen buttons making them unusable, and the issue still occurs. This time, however, I tried pressing Ctrl to activate the color picker tool and it showed me a green color, even though the background was pure white and I hadn't used any green at all. Here's a screenshot of what I mean:

The green color also stays on the popup palette when I used my mouse to activate it, but I can't use it.

I tried using the mouse and it works fine, maybe it's some issue with the pen?

The green there is the background color, which means that Krita reads your ctrl+click as "ctrl + right click".

Have you tried reinstalling the Huion driver? Please do.

Just did. I uninstalled it, rebooted my computer, installed it again, imported the old hotkey config and Krita presents the same issue. I've been using WinTab for now since it presents the least amount of problems, but it still happens from time to time.

I could try updating my huion drivers to a newer version and see what it does since there was a new version released recently.

Did the new drivers help? Recently on krita-artists there was a link to a Huion FAQ that described a problem very much like this and the solution was to replace the nib.

Hi! I switched the nib and didn't see much of a difference, although half of that old issue seemed to have solved itself after a while (oops!), currently, the brush disappearing and freezing in place is still happening, although it's after you choose a brush from the pop-up palette and it closes, I've enabled the option to see a small circle around the brush (for accessibility reasons since I have a poor eyesight) and the circle itself doesn't freeze, but the brush gets stuck in place, disabled until I right click again. Haven't noticed this issue using the tablet in any other software so far.

Krita version: 5.0.6
HUION Firmware version: 15.3.19.151

Still on Windows 10, not using Windows Ink on Krita and I've disabled it on Windows for the moment, haven't tried using it with the newest version of Krita nor the newest Huion drivers.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to close this report. With the Huion tablet we have, we don't have problems, and since there simply isn't any tablet-specific code in Krita (it's all OS drivers and Qt) there isn't anything we can realistically do.
