I am not sure if this is Kate issue or some other Plasma component. Feel free to reassign elsewhere. Recently there was a feature added to Plasma that it is possible now to drag some text and drop it on desktop and a new sticky note is created. That is cool. The issue is that when I have two Kate windows open side by side like in the screenshot it is not possible to drag & drop text. Only copy paste works. https://i.imgur.com/c2N98SE.png Expected result: Make it possible to drag & drop text from any text application to any other text application. This is kind of strange because I was able to drag & drop text from Kate to Writer. But I wasn't able to drag & drop text from Kate to Kate or from Kate to Anki editor window. https://apps.ankiweb.net/ This is software for learning and it is particularly important to me to be able to use drag & drop method. If I spend many hours editing text, making every step easier, effortless is very important.
Confirmed on kate from git master.
I can't reproduce this. Drag&Drop from Kate to Kate, Kate to firefox works for me using Version 20.08.3.
I checked on Plasma 5.20.4 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.76.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 and it works fine for Kate to Kate or Kate to Firefox but doesn't for Kate to Anki. This is strange because I can drag & drop text from Firefox to Anki. To test in Anki click in Anki on Add option. Anki is one of the most popular applications for learning, so it would be really nice to have it working.
Dragging and dropping from Kate -> Anki is also working for me. I did the folowing: - Open kate, write some text - Open Anki, Click "Add" - card add dialog opens - Select text in kate and drag it to Anki - Drop text in textline with label "Front" Anki Version 2.1.35 (84dcaa86) Python 3.8.6 Qt 5.15.2 PyQt 5.15.2 Kate 20.08.3 KDE Frameworks 5.76.0 Qt 5.15.2 (built against 5.15.1)
Indeed. With new Anki version it also works for me. Thank you for checking. I think it the bug report can be closed now.
Ok, thanks for testing!
