Description tneo 2020-09-23 13:23:46 UTC
SUMMARY
Changing the color scheme for KDE does not effect Kate. You have to manually select the color scheme for Kate through Settings > color scheme

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Kate notice look and feel
2. Open system settings and change color scheme (everything adheres to color scheme, e.g. Dolphin, Akregator, Kmail).
3. Kate is not following color scheme unless manually set.

OBSERVED RESULT
Kate sticks to color scheme set under Settings > Color scheme

EXPECTED RESULT
Kate follows the System Settings selected color scheme

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20200916
KDE Plasma Version: 5.19.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.73.0
Qt Version: 5.15.1
Kernel Version: 5.8.7-1-default

This will be fixed in 5.75, KTextEditor based applications like Kate will at least choose some matching dark or light theme.

Thought individual colors still need to be configured there, as the global color schemes are not sufficient for that.

But you will not get stuck with e.g. a white text editing area in some dark sourrounding.
