SUMMARY Hi, I just switched to Kubuntu 20.04 from Ubuntu 18.04 and everything started smoothly. I want Kubuntu to be my new dev system and I need Docker. Dolphin, however proofed to be unusable when using docker, as it displays containers as devices which makes it freeze for a few seconds, every time that it is focused. According to a reddit post, I've found https://phabricator.kde.org/D22080 is the culprit for this behavior. I have reverted the patch and rebuild and installed solid and the docker containers are still listed as devices (which I personally don't want, although I can live with it and can follow the argument for having them there), but Dolphin stays responsive. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Freshly install Kubuntu 20.04 2. Start a bunch of Docker containers OBSERVED RESULT Dolphin slows down significantly, needing several seconds before being responsive EXPECTED RESULT My file manager being responsive when switching to it. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Kubuntu 20.04 KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0 Qt Version: 5.12.8 Kernel Version: 5.4.0-47-generic OS Type: 64-bit Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor Memory: 31,4 GiB of RAM
The same is happening to me, and a couple of coworkers, they choose to move back to gnome, but i would like to stay useing kde, any news about this issue?
FWIW you don't have to move to GNOME if Dolphin isn't working for you, other file managers like Nautilus and Thunar work fine in Plasma. Plenty of people use these.
