Description Rob Brown 2020-09-18 00:34:25 UTC
SUMMARY
The faces feature works well, but is let down by the resulting presentation of the tagged faces. When viewing a person, I expect to see a thumbnail of the whole picture; instead I see a thumbnail of the face crop (blown up.

This is really not very useful to the user and not how other applications work with this functionality. Tagged faces should be a shortcut method of finding photos of a person. The current result doesn't let the user understand which photo they were looking for.

EXPECTED RESULT
Feature suggestion: show the thumbnail as the full uncropped photo.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Running 7.1.0 on Linux (ubuntu) via Flatpak

Sorry, you mean the thumbnails in the People view? That only the face is shown is the general standard in such programs. You can click / double click on the image to see the full image. There will be no change to this view of the thumbnails and is not wanted by the users.

Have you asked all the users?

I completely disagree with you. In other applications with such functionality the thumbnails for a given 'face' show the whole photo so the user can understand WHICH photo they are clicking on before they click on it.

Having 500+ photos of the cropped face of a person is really quite useless in order to get to the right photo. I already clicked on person A. If I click on person A and see 500 pictures of their face, how do I know which one was them at the beach, vs the party (which I was looking for)? If I have to click on each one to find it, that really defeats the object of a faces feature.

For the people view, this behavior is definitely desired. You can use the Tag View in the left sidebar to filter by people, here you can see the normal thumbnail. You can also activate a recursive view to show all images with people tags.
