Digikam will not let me create an album. The Album menu is all greyed out. "Ctrl N" will not work. Help. I would really like to try digiKam, but it is dead in the water.
If you have selected a tab with a virtual search album in the left sidebar, you cannot create an album and the menu is grayed out. The top tab is the tab for the physical albums, here you can create new albums and the menu is available. Maik
Created attachment 131567 [details] Album.png To your question in the private mail, attached screenshot. You will see on the left side bar the active (blue in this color scheme) the Album tab. Maik
You should publish your answers here, I have no problem with private mail. But the discussion can only be followed here for others. You haven't added any image collections yet. You cannot work with digiKam without adding a collection in the digiKam setup under collection (collection = folder with images or empty folder). You were also asked to do this in the initial setup. Maik
digiKam will not let me add images from my computer's hard drive or directly from a camera because I do not have a target album. But, I can not add an album. Which brings me back to my original question. I am stuck in a loop with no solution.
Go to digiKAm/Configure/Collections and add a least one root local collection to have a suitable application. After that, you will be able to append new album to collection and import items from camera. Gilles Caulier
Nope. I do as you suggest and nothing happens except I get the same old message about "No default target album have been selected to process download from camera device. Please select one." And, yes, I am attempting to do a "local" import, not from a camera. The error message is incorrect.
In Setup/camera/behavior, did you enable a default album to download ? Import from camera or local device use the same interface. Gilles Caulier
Can not do. I configured two cameras but digiKam will not import because "camera-behavior" there is no album and it will not let me create one.
You don't have to import any images. You must have an empty folder or a image folder on your computer. Such a folder is an album for digikam. You have to set this up under digiKam-> Settings-> Collection. DigiKam use an existing folder as an album, digikam does not import the images into the database, only the metadata. Digikam will NOT work if you do not specify a folder in Setup under Collections! Maik
Did you solve the problem with adding an image (or empty) collection? Maik
Maik, Thank you for following up on my request for help. I did finally get DigiKam to created a collection and thereby an album. But from there on I could not get DigiKam to do what I wanted. I have 110,000 images in six parent directories on my data drive. I want drive e: to be the high level directory/album/collection or whatever it is called for my image collection. But I don't want all 35 directories on drive e: to be in my image database. I spent a couple of days unsuccessfully trying to get DigiKam to do that. I gave up. DigiKam doesn't think like I do. It was a battle of wills and it won. I appreciate you help.
Ok, to bad, but thanks for the feedback. We are developing digiKam further, maybe you will give digiKam another chance later. If you add drive E: you have just included all 6 recursive subfolders. You can add individual folders as collections, e.g. E:\Photo1. And then add another collection, e.g. E:\Foto3 etc. Ok, I'm closing the bug that the main problem was that no collection was added. Maik
