SUMMARY when viewing an archive file (a .zip file in my case) on an usb stick, the stick cannot be unmounted even after exiting the archive file as the archive.so does not get unloaded. are you opening the zip archive as folder? If so, I can reproduce with a zip archive, but not with tar one. Dolphin 21.04.1 displays an inline error message when I try to unmount the removable device: "One or more files on this device are opened in application "dolphinfBzlIl.3.slave-socket".
