The animation speed slider does have an effect on the speed of switching the launcher categories, but all other animations stay at the same speed.
What is "all other" window animations? Can you include your ~/.config/kwinrc ?
By "all others" I mean minimizing/restoring windows from the tray, the speed of the wobbly windows animation, the animation when windows appear...

[KDE] AnimationDurationFactor=0.5 that shouldn't exist. deleting this line will fix it, but I'm curious how it got there. Can I have a screenshot of the systemsettings -> display -> compositor window?
Maybe it's a deprecated setting that somehow wasn't deleted? Can I delete the [KDE] line too? On my other machines with KDE Plasma that config block isn't there at all.

I've removed this now and everything works as expected. >[KDE] >AnimationDurationFactor=0.5 The question remains why this line remained, but I'll close the bug.
I am observing the same issue here. The mentioned line is also present in my kwinrc
The line was present on 3 of my 4 KDE installations here. So this must be some common issue. I have to admit that all that installations are quite old though, upgraded from KDE 4 days.
thanks for the solution @David Edmundson just for the record: my installation is relatively recent (more or less a year) and this line was present in the file.
We found what was causing that. It got fixed a while ago. Any broken instances still remain unfortunately.
Can we just delete that line whenever the animation time in the kcm is changed? This would be somewhat self-healing. Is that setting still in use for something? Otherwise, is it possible to autoremove/ignore that line?
