I have the same bug on KDENLIVE 20.08.2 on Linux (Solus):

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add a clip to "Library"
2. Insert clip from library to project

OBSERVED RESULT
Diplayed msg: "Cannot open file /home/user/.local/share/kdenlive/library/file.mlt"

EXPECTED RESULT
Inserted clip.

note that this is not a file permissions problem (I checked) so something else must be going on.

Confirmed. It seems that the mlt library clip get not correct generated. The mlt file it is much too small in file size. So Kdenlive cannot open the mlt file.

Just the same under linux. Perms for the .mlt file are fine. Kdenlive can rename or delete it, just not open and add to the timeline. It does had a proper thumbnail.

I've got the same issue running Kdenlive 20.12.3 on Ubuntu 20.04 both trying PPA and AppImage.
On 20.04.0 it works ok on Ubuntu 20.04
Comment 5 Jim 2021-03-18 21:28:22 UTC
Same for Windows 10 running 20.12.3. But I can save mp4 to Library Folder and add them to project, just seems like the MLTs not working.

Comment 8 emohr 2021-06-01 17:52:32 UTC
I tested with Kdenlive 21.04.1 and it seems fixed (tested with 1080p50 clip). Could you test with 21.04.1 as well?
Comment 9 Jim 2021-06-01 18:04:56 UTC
I tested in 21.04.1 and it works a well.

Thanks

With which Kdenlive version do you have built the library? Can you upload the library so we can test?
