Hi Julian,

I'm sorry, but your bug report is incomprehensible. Please explain what exactly the issue is, how to reproduce it, and tell us which OS you are using.
Comment 2 Julian Carlo Fagotti 2020-08-26 14:24:35 UTC
The text tool is not accentuating. I use Linux, 20.04.
Comment 3 Halla Rempt 2020-08-26 14:52:51 UTC
"The text tool is not accentuating." -- I'm sorry, but that still doesn't convey any meaning to me.
Comment 4 Tiar 2020-08-26 14:58:21 UTC
What language are you using? Do you mean things like ` over letters? Do you maybe mean that you press one key to get the letter and then another key to get the accent over that letter?

Can you show a short video where some other tool accentuate (can be other program)?
Comment 5 Julian Carlo Fagotti 2020-08-26 15:05:59 UTC
Yes, I press the accent first, then the letter to get accent.
I'm using Latin, Portuguese alphabet. In other programs, the accentuation (examples: É, é, ã, à, ê ...) works.
Comment 6 Halla Rempt 2020-08-26 15:55:37 UTC
Okay, I see. Well, that I cannot reproduce: it works fine for me with a Dutch keyboard layout with the KDE Plasma desktop on KDE Neon (based Ubuntu 20.40).

It would be really weird if it didn't work, because we use a standard editing component from Qt.

Do your dead keys work in other KDE applications, like Kate?
Comment 7 Julian Carlo Fagotti 2020-08-26 16:39:46 UTC
I downloaded the kate to test it. It also shows the accents in the letters.
Comment 8 Halla Rempt 2020-08-26 16:41:34 UTC
* Which font are you using in Krita?
* Which desktop are you using?
Comment 9 Julian Carlo Fagotti 2020-08-26 16:53:52 UTC
Intel® Core™ i3-8100T CPU @ 3.10GHz × 4

Native or installed fonts do not work accents: Ubuntu, Dejavu sans, wild words Roman, for example. But they work on other applications.

Curious detail: If I write the text in another program, and I use it for Krita, the graphic signs of the accentuation appear. So it seems to be a problem with KDE's relationship to the keyboard.

Accentuation works fine on Windows on Finnish keyboard layout:

It might actually depend on the choice of the font. Can it be that the selected font doesn't have these characters?
Comment 13 Dmitry Kazakov 2020-08-27 21:24:42 UTC
It also works fine here on Kubuntu 18.04 with DejaVu Sans and DejaVu Serif (with Finnish keyboard layout)

Comment 15 Halla Rempt 2020-12-08 16:13:35 UTC
Krita doesn't have any special code for editing text whatsoever. It's just the default Qt rich text editor. There is no special keyboard code, there is no code that interfaces with any of the desktop's systems for switching keyboard layouts.

I've tested with spanish keyboard layouts, dutch and french, and I cannot reproduce this issue. I'm sorry, but I'm going to close it as worksforme: there is literally nothing we can do here. Entering text in the text tool's editor is not our code.

But the fact is that it is a problem only in Krita. Accentuation works in all other programs.
