Description Chris 2020-08-20 18:05:38 UTC
SUMMARY
Using KDE Connect20.04.3 on a gentoo system that is up to date as of today.
Using android version 1.14.2 on my Samsung S9+

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Pair your phone with you computer, and give all necessary permissions
2. On the computer, open kwrite (or another similar application)
3. On the phone, press "Remote input"
4. Test the function of using the phone as a track-pad. It works.
5. Press the keyboard button on the upper right.
6. Start typing letters. Nothing appears in kwrite
7. Hit the "enter" button on the soft keyboard -- it works, AEB a CR/LF is sent to kwrite
8. Press anything but a letter -- it works just fine, a comma, exclamation, plus sign.. you name it. If it isn't a letter, it comes out into kwrite with no issues.
9. Try shifting to upper case, letters still do not work.
10. Misspell a word, and press the suggested correct -- it comes through into kwrite just fine.
11. Try using Voice recognition (samsung or google). It works just fine as well. Everything comes out into kwrite.
12. Download Gboard, and see if it has the same issue: Nope! Works fine.
13. Scratch your head, and wonder what the heck is going on here :)
14. Remove Gboard, because the samsung keyboard is way better in all other respects.

OBSERVED RESULT
no letters will type through. Everything else does. It is just the letters

EXPECTED RESULT
I expect to be able to write words, using standard english letters

Thank you for the bug report!

I can't reproduce this anymore with KDE Connect 24.04 or 23.08, using Samsung Keyboard 3.3.23.33 or 5.8.20.7. (For Latin character sets, there are issues with other character sets and extended characters, but there are several separate bug reports for these issues). I assume the main incompatibility with Samsung Keyboard was fixed at some point.

Do you still experience this issue? If yes, can you clarify the versions that you are using, or provide other information that may be relevant?
