Description a.saoutkin 2020-08-12 10:20:07 UTC
SUMMARY

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Do stuff

OBSERVED RESULT
Computer freezes at random moments, roughly once a day. Requires restart/reset.
Noticeably it's the window that freezes, audio still continues from programs such as Zoom.
during my most recent freeze, I once tried alt tabbing to a Youtube video that paused and tried to resume it but it didn't work (couldn't hear anything).
So it seems like KWin isn't able to process keyboard events at that moment in time.

This could just be a Kernel issue, but am happy to collect any other useful info needed to diagnose exactly what is going on.

EXPECTED RESULT
No freezing

Please confirm if that happens with openbox (you can use that on top of plasma)

Please also include your nvidia driver version.

I've seen similar GPU hangups with i915 video driver when playing StarCraft2, kernel messages contained this:
Aug 30 17:39:52 glue kernel: i915 0000:00:02.0: Resetting rcs0 for preemption time out
Aug 30 17:39:52 glue kernel: i915 0000:00:02.0: SC2.exe[55786] context reset due to GPU hang
Aug 30 17:39:52 glue kernel: i915 0000:00:02.0: GPU HANG: ecode 9:1:84df7cfc, in SC2.exe [55786]

Please check kernel log for similar messages (use dmesg or look in /var/log/messages).
