I've just tested this on Dolphin from git master and the icon updated immediately. I deleted a file, emptied trash by right clicking on the icon in places and the icon changed.

Patrick can you please confirm if this is still an issue, thanks.

Apologies I missed that this was related to the tab icon. Can confirm still an issue.

A similar issue also occurs for moving items into the wastebin whilst the Wastebin view is already open. The icon of the Wastebin Tab stays empty, however any new Wastebin Tabs will show the correct icon.
