...and it looks like in the screenshot. They should only show the controls on their desktop.

It's the same bug completely.

If you can't map audio process to a specific window, we implicitly can't also map it to a specific virtual desktop.

I was thinking of making the media controls element not take over the task's window thumbnails; it would be displayed separately.

Ok, so not trying to fix the mapping bug, but making media controls generally less invasive. Sounds doable at least.
