Description Bimal Rekhadiya 2020-07-10 07:57:58 UTC
Hello,

I added two images. One is background white image and second is transparent PNG image. I applied fade-in effect in transparent PNG image. But the fade-in effect is not pure trasparent and blackish at starting of fade effect. This same effect is working perfectly with Openshop. I compared same with OpenShot and it's working perfectly. So I created a video to give you preview:
https://streamable.com/e159ke

I also tried with different PNG images but the problem still exists.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1. Add a background white image.
2. Add a PNG transparent effect and apply fade-in effect
3. Now see the starting frame of the fade-in effect. It will be blackish instead of pure opacity. See this video https://streamable.com/e159ke

OBSERVED RESULT:
I think the opacity engine is not working properly.

EXPECTED RESULT:
I added Openshot demo too in the video and you can see it what I am expecting.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Kdenlive version: 20.04.1
Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 20.04
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: Not sure but latest in Kubuntu 12.04
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68
Qt Version: 5.12.8

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I tried Kdenlive version which comes apt-get command. I think the bug appear due to old version. So I updated Kdenlive with PPA on Ubuntu:
https://launchpad.net/~kdenlive/+archive/ubuntu/kdenlive-stable
But still problem exists.

Please try with the current Kdenlive AppImage version 20.04.1b to see if there are any packaging issues https://files.kde.org/kdenlive/release/

If the problem/issue doesn't occur when using the AppImage, then it's your configuration or packaging.

Hello

Yes I tried with kdenlive-20.04.2c-x86_64.appimage version (current latest version) and still same problem exits. The problem is exactly same and no difference.

I see your point. Could you upload here both pictures the unsplash-bg.jpg and the logo-2.png so I can make a test.

This is transparent PNG image - Firefox logo
Comment 6 Bimal Rekhadiya 2020-07-23 16:52:33 UTC
Ye sure. Here I attached both images.

The first is background image which I downloaded from Freepik site. Here is the image link (just for reference):
https://www.freepik.com/free-vector/elegant-white-background-with-shiny-lines_4077186.htm#page=1&query=white%20background&position=1

The second image is Forefox logo. The forground image is Firefox logo and technically it's transparent PNG image. You can use any transparent PNG image.

FadeIn_transform

I confirm this behavior. I assume you expect a fade in like transform does it (see attached screengrab). Correct? If so, fade seems not working with opacity but with a gray filter.

Change to confirmed.

"I assume you expect a fade in like transform does it (see attached screengrab). Correct? If so, fade seems not working with opacity but with a gray filter."
-- Yes right. This exactly I am feeling that the opacity is not working as expected and looks like grey filter used.

Also this same happens to "Title Clip" too. Like when I add a new "Title Clip" (text layer) with opacity effect than the same black opacity applied to "Title Clip". I request you to solve on "Title Clip" too.

There is no bug really. Fade in and out effects they fade from and to black. For what you want you must use a transition.
