Description MountainAirCA 2020-07-06 02:09:11 UTC
SUMMARY

When shooting flat frames, Ekos does not return to the last-used focus position for each filter. The positions are stored properly, Ekos just doesn't attempt to focus prior to starting the exposure.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. In focus module, run auto-focus for all filters of interest.

2. In camera module, click Filters icon to verify that each filter's focus position is recorded in the "Flat Focus Position" column. I also had AutoFocus checked, and lock filter unchecked.

3. In the camera module, choose Type=Flat. Note, I also use the calibration wizard in manual mode with an ADU of 28000 and a tolerance of 1000.

4. Add one exposure of at least two filters to the sequence.

5. Note the current focus position in the focus module. If desired, change it to some distant number so it's obvious if it changes or not during the flat capture (e.g. 20,000).

6. In camera module, click start on the sequence. Note that Ekos change the filter, but doesn't seem like it adjusts focus according to the log. HOWEVER, note that manually setting focus in the Focus module also doesn't leave a trace in the log.

7. In the focus module, note the focus position doesn't change between filters.

8. In the Indi Control Panel, note the focus position doesn't change between filters.

NOTE: THIS ALSO HAPPENS WITH THE SIMULATORS.

OBSERVED RESULT

Flats are shot without Ekos adjusting focus.

EXPECTED RESULT

After changing filters, the flat capture module should adjust focus to the level recorded for previous light frame exposures for that filter, prior to initiating an exposure.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Comment 1 Jasem Mutlaq 2020-07-06 10:55:49 UTC
I cannot reproduce this. Are you sure the option is selected in Options to use light frame focus position for flat flat? It's in Settings --> Configure KStars --> Capture
Comment 2 MountainAirCA 2020-07-08 05:52:22 UTC
That did it Jasem, thank you. I was unaware of that option in the settings.

Please consider adding a note about this setting and it's location to the capture module's filter dialog, or at least to the mouseover on the Flat Focus Position column header.

Thank you! This ticket can be closed.
